The 3-unit logistic substrate of Fig 1A.

The example the IIT 4.0 paper introduces the theory with (Albantakis et al. 2023, Figs 1, 2 and 4). Each unit’s activation is a logistic function of its weighted inputs in {−1, +1} (Eq. 60) with slope k = 4. The connection weights are read from the Fig 1A causal model:

A→A = −0.2 A→B = +0.7 A→C = +0.2
B→A = +0.7 B→B = −0.2 (no B→C)
(no C→A) C→B = −0.8 C→C = +0.2

In the state aBC = (0, 1, 1) the paper reports φₛ = 0.04 for {A}, 0.17 for {A, B} (the complex), and 0.13 for {A, B, C} (Fig 1E) — the values under IIT 4.0 as published in 2023. Under the intrinsic-information requirement, {A} and {A, B, C} are unchanged and {A, B} gives 0.04, where the requirement binds.
